- Chris Meyer, CEO of Fun and Moving (FAM), recognized the global need for accessible and affordable medically approved routines for vulnerable populations and those in remote areas.
- Inspired by his grandfather’s simple yet effective approach to health, Chris Meyer founded FAM with a mission to help others.
- FAM offers a digital rehab, health, and wellness platform that provides affordable, user-friendly routines designed by ACE-certified trainers and approved by medical professionals.
Medically approved routines are critical yet often overlooked in healthcare. The world’s most vulnerable populations, such as those suffering from diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, and obesity, along with people in remote areas lacking access to care facilities, face significant challenges. The key issue is providing “access” to these routines. Despite ongoing development, global broadband infrastructure remains insufficient. Additionally, proper form and technique in performing these routines pose fundamental challenges.
Chris Meyer, CEO of Fun and Moving (FAM), recognized this global need. He saw the necessity to provide access to proper care for those isolated, stuck in life, or unable to afford recovery from injury or illness.
“I thought we could do it economically, because I felt large healthcare providers and governments were missing the mark. So, a few friends and I built a platform to fill that need,” Chris shares.
About Fun and Moving (FAM)
FAM is a digital rehab, health, and wellness platform designed for those cut off from proper care by race, income, or geography. It features a companion SaaS telehealth software and emphasizes access, affordability, and ease of use. All routines start in a bed or chair, created by ACE-certified trainers and approved by a Doctor, Physical Therapist, and Occupational Therapist, ensuring safe, medically vetted routines.
As a Medicare-certified company, FAM also offers an embedded HIPAA-compliant telehealth portal, serving countries, states, cities, municipalities, Managed Health Care, hospitals, PEO, health insurance, assisted living, and home healthcare sectors.
Global Healthcare Magazine recently spoke with Chris, who emphasized, “Besides affordable routines for anyone on the globe, we act as the ultimate gap filler for people who are lucky to have health coverage, covering those things not covered by insurance for which people are forced to pay out of pocket.”
GHM: What inspired the creation of Fun and Moving (FAM)? Can you share the organization’s mission and core values?
Chris: FAM was born from my best friend, my grandfather, an immigrant who spent 35 years delivering pickles, eggs, and cheese up and down the streets of New York in an unairconditioned truck. He never had health insurance, never went to a gym, and lived to be over 90. His secret was simple: stretching, walking, good food, and love of his family above all. His health regimen was simple… keep moving!
Through his ninety-one-year life example, I believed that basic exercise, memory care, and rehabilitation should be a universal right. Everyone, regardless of their circumstances, deserves the chance to improve their well-being. That’s why I teamed up with my COO, Peggy Skaggs, to build FAM: an affordable, online platform that puts health within reach for anyone with an internet connection.
Our mission is simple: Help others. Our core values are empathy, kindness, and resiliency in all that we do.
GHM: Can you describe FAM’s core offerings and what makes them special?
Chris: FAM offers medically approved routines for basic movement, rehabilitation, and workplace exercises. We cater to a wide range of users, from those just starting their fitness journey to individuals recovering from injuries or with limited mobility.
We offer bed exercises for those permanently disabled or temporarily confined to a bed. We have prehab and rehab for the hip, knee, and shoulder to fill the gaps between physiotherapy and occupational therapy appointments or for complete long-term recovery.
Our platform also provides memory routines for cognitive health and balance exercises to prevent falls, promoting overall well-being for aging individuals.
With over 1,500 routines accessible through our digital (asynchronous) platform, we empower anyone with an internet connection the ability to improve their condition or begin their “getting healthier” journey.
It is revolutionary because now, regardless of whether you are in Memphis, Mozambique, or Majorca, you can improve your health. The barriers to access to care have been wiped out.
Now, countries, governments, and politicians need to recognize our affordable solution for treating and improving the long-term health of their populations. This will alleviate the burden on our global healthcare infrastructure. We believe we must change our global healthcare strategy to one of long-term preventative health instead of our current “band-aid” healthcare mentality: “I am sick, Give me a pill, I am better.” That strategy is not working.
GHM: How many people are using FAM, and what metrics define your success in expanding healthcare access?
Chris: FAM is already reaching millions. We’ve partnered with the two largest cable providers in the US, Comcast, and Charter-Spectrum, to bring our program into over 30-40 million American homes. Globally, we are supporting three million NHS care workers in the UK.
Ultimately, we measure the success of our efforts with the individual stories of changing people’s lives, one person at a time. And we won’t rest until we are caring for anyone who wants to live a healthier life.
GHM: As the leader of FAM, what’s your day-to-day like?
Chris: Every day, I surround myself with people smarter than me. (which is very easy for me). My primary role is creating simplicity, ease of use, and speed to improve the health of someone’s life… the fewest number of clicks to getting people well again.
GHM: What makes for effective healthcare leadership, in your opinion? How do you lead your team at FAM?
Chris: I dislike bureaucracy, doubters, and reluctance to ask “what if.” To counter this, I focus on dreaming daily, believing that anything is possible.
I create an environment where there is space to create, space to fail, and space to iterate. But above all, I always lead with empathy.
GHM: What are your future goals for FAM, and are there any upcoming projects or initiatives you are particularly excited about?
Chris: We recently completed a companion telehealth portal to provide simple, affordable, non-emergency care globally. This portal supports 41 of the most spoken languages in the world. We now have the ability to embed our Fun And Moving site into this telehealth portal, allowing medical professionals to advise patients and assign rehabilitation or general health movement routines to improve their lives. Again, the barriers to access are now gone.
GHM: How do you manage to maintain a work-life balance? What are your hobbies and interests beyond the office?
Chris: There is no “perfect” balance. My wife and three sons are my entire world, and having them in my life makes it easier to balance everything.
My hobbies include playing basketball with my sons, visiting them at college, enjoying good food with friends, and playing fantasy football.
GHM: Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers—a message of hope, a call to action, or any other insights you believe are important?
Chris: Access to proper care now exists for all people, regardless of their social determinants of health. Please spread the word about us. And if someone genuinely can’t afford $10 per month (less than the price of a takeout pizza), we will still provide them access. We aim to leave this world better than we found it, and we want people to join us on our journey to make the world healthier. Together, we can.
