Dr. Bradley Feuer currently serves as Chief Surgeon and Medical Director for the Florida Highway Patrol, a division of the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles. He has held the role since November 2003, more than twenty-two years, and oversees statewide medical readiness, health, safety, and wellness for FHP members. He has served with the Florida Highway Patrol Auxiliary since 2003, where he is Major and Chief Troop Surgeon.
Building a Program From the Ground Up
Dr. Feuer conceived and developed the Troop Surgeon Program, through which physicians volunteer their time to support the health and safety of troopers. As Chief Troop Surgeon, he is responsible for statewide member health and safety and wellness initiatives, while also serving as Medical Director for the FHP Training Academy and Southern Regional Tactical Response Team and administering the Critical Incident Peer Support Team.
That team has responded to suicides, line-of-duty deaths, post-hurricane stress, the death of a member’s child, multiple fatality incidents, and trooper-involved shootings. He coordinated quarterly joint regional peer support training between the FHP and U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and helped expand the regional peer-support effort into a statewide program.
The role reaches well beyond crisis response. Dr. Feuer visits hospitals to liaise between medical teams and troopers injured in the line of duty, organizes health screenings, and presents on medical topics at district and troop meetings. He has built relationships with regional trauma and tertiary care centers for members with complex conditions, assists internal investigations, attends state and local medical society meetings, and meets with local, state, and federal legislators. FHP materials also credit its regional surgeons with advising command on medical issues, responding to injured troopers, facilitating tertiary-care referrals, and providing troop-wide health screenings.
He developed a seatbelt safety project in a local school district, served as guest speaker at a county law enforcement memorial service, arranged emergency escorts of personnel and patients following hurricanes, and has helped distribute holiday gifts to hospitalized children. His committee work includes the IACP’s Employee Mental Health and Wellness Working Group in 2019 and 2020, and its CISM Working Group in 2019. He has also been a member of the Florida Highway Patrol Advisory Council since 2015.
Three Decades on the Water
Since August 1990, more than thirty-five years, Dr. Feuer has served as President of Pace Travel, Inc., a boutique agency specializing in luxury cruise travel and group continuing education cruises for physicians and attorneys. He is a CLIA-certified Master Cruise Counsellor, a designation he and his wife, Dr. Ileana Feuer, were among the first 50 travel professionals to receive, and since the early 1990s he has worked as a consultant and auditor for the cruise industry, evaluating shipboard medical operations and advising senior leadership through confidential strategic analysis audits.
That expertise carried him to Capitol Hill. On October 7, 1999, Dr. Feuer testified before the Subcommittee on Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, in a hearing titled Cruise Ship Safety, addressing cruise-ship medical standards and safety. His current professional biography identifies the appearance as testimony before the 106th Congress.
In 2000, he served as owner’s representative for the design of onboard medical facilities for a new ship build, Project America. In 1997, he sponsored a survey of cruise-line medical facilities whose results were published in Critical Care Medicine and, according to Pace Travel, contributed to the modernization of cruise medical care. He has contributed to four editions of The Unofficial Guide to Cruises, published by Simon & Schuster/Macmillan and later John Wiley & Sons, in 1995, 1998, 2004, and 2007. Along the way, he has sailed well over 200 cruises on 28 different cruise lines, visiting all seven continents by sea.
From the Airwaves to the Newsroom
Long before streaming health content, Dr. Feuer was explaining medicine over the air. He produced and hosted For Your Health on WPBR Talk Radio 1340 in West Palm Beach from 1992 to 1994, then For Your Health Minute on WRLX 92.1FM from 1993 to 1995. From 1996 to 1997, he served as a television medical expert for WPBF 25’s Hot Topic and Hot Lines segments, and from 1998 to 2000, he co-hosted Doctor to Doctor on WPEC-TV CBS12 News alongside Dr. Brent Schillinger, a program that, according to his professional biography, drew twice the audience of Good Morning America at its peak in the West Palm Beach market.
A Career Built on Medical Education
Dr. Feuer’s academic footprint spans more than thirty years. He has served as Clinical Professor of Family Medicine at Nova Southeastern University since July 2006, and previously as Assistant Dean for Clinical Education at its College of Osteopathic Medicine from June 2014 to June 2019. At Kansas City University, he was Assistant Regional Dean for South Florida from October 2014 to June 2019 and Clinical Professor of Family Medicine from 2009 to 2019. He also taught as Clinical Professor of Family Medicine at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine from 2008 to 2016.
His deepest institutional legacy is the Palm Beach Consortium for Graduate Medical Education, which he founded in August 1991 and led as Designated Institutional Official, Regional Director of Medical Education, and Family Medicine Program Director until June 2019, a run of nearly twenty-eight years. Under his oversight, the consortium launched and achieved full accreditation for 14 AOA and five ACGME residency programs, all of which posted a 100 percent first-time board pass rate.
His nearly three-decade HCA Healthcare career, from August 1991 to June 2019, also included twelve years as chair of the market-wide Ethics Committee representing three company hospitals in Palm Beach County, from 1997 to 2009, as well as service on federal working groups for the Department of Health and Human Services and the Department of Homeland Security addressing hospital infrastructure risk and active-shooter preparedness.
A Legal Career in Parallel
As both a DO and a JD, Dr. Feuer spent four years, from April 2002 to April 2006, as a Member, Vice President, and Co-Chief Operating Officer at healthcare law firm Brennan Manna Diamond, and was Of Counsel at Buckingham, Doolittle & Burroughs from 1996 to 2000. His professional biography also identifies him as a former founding member, Vice President, and Co-Chief Operating Officer of the Florida office of Brennan, Manna & Diamond.
He has held medical staff membership at HCA Florida JFK North Hospital since August 1993, for more than thirty-three years, and at HCA Florida Palms West Hospital since July 2005. Florida’s Department of Health currently lists both JFK Medical Center and Palms West Hospital among his staff privileges.
A Community He Helped Lead
Within the Palm Beach County Medical Society, which at one point represented more than 1,200 physicians, Dr. Feuer served as President from 2000 to 2001, and held nearly a dozen other posts across three decades, including Treasurer, Second Vice President, Chair of the Bioterrorism Task Force, and Chair of the Medical-Legal and Insurance Committee. He was twice nominated as a Hero in Medicine, for healthcare education in 2014 and for community outreach in 2012.
