Why Was the Bettergoods Nut Butter Recalled?
The Walmart food safety alert followed routine testing by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS). According to the FDA notice, Walmart learned on July 17, 2026, that three jars tested at a Walmart retail location had tested positive for Salmonella.
The company said the testing “identified the presence of Salmonella,” prompting the Walmart nut butter recall.

Botticelli Foods announced the voluntary recall of its Bettergoods nut butter, which applies to products distributed to Walmart retail stores in 19 states:
Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Kansas, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, South Dakota, Tennessee, Washington and Wyoming.
What Are the Symptoms of Salmonella Infection?
Salmonella is a bacterium that can cause salmonellosis, a foodborne infection. While many infections resolve without serious complications, the illness can be more dangerous for young children, older adults, frail individuals, and people with weakened immune systems.
People who consume contaminated food may develop symptoms including:
- Fever
- Diarrhea, which may sometimes be bloody
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Abdominal pain
Symptoms of salmonella infection can begin within six hours to six days after infection and may last up to seven days.
In rare cases, Salmonella can enter the bloodstream and cause serious complications, including arterial infections, endocarditis, or arthritis.
