Union Square in San Francisco is a place people pass through rather than linger, unless they happen to look up. Rising above the shops and the familiar clang of the cable cars is a twenty-six-story tower of terra cotta and bronze, its façade adorned with Mayan-inspired geometric motifs that have little to do with dentistry and everything to do with one visionary dental supplier’s ambitious idea of what a medical office building could become.

That building is 450 Sutter Street, designed by renowned architect Timothy Pflueger and opened on October 15, 1929, just days before the stock market crash reshaped the American economy. More than nine decades later, it remains one of San Francisco’s most distinguished medical and dental addresses, and for well over half a century, one of its most enduring practitioners has been Dr. Albert Kadosh.

A Route Through the Armed Forces and the Bronx

Dr. Kadosh’s journey to Suite 2040 was shaped by experience long before he established his own practice. He earned his dental degree from New York University College of Dentistry, one of the oldest and most respected dental schools in the United States. He then completed an internship in Oral Surgery at Fordham Hospital in the Bronx between June 1965 and June 1966. At the time, Fordham Hospital was one of New York City’s important public teaching hospitals, providing young clinicians with rigorous surgical experience before its eventual closure a decade later.

Following his internship, he served two years in the U.S. Armed Forces, stationed in Germany. By the time he returned to civilian practice, he had already gained experience in academic dentistry, hospital-based oral surgery, and military service. He subsequently joined a general dental practice with Drs. Alexander Leff, Marvin Rechter, and Jesse Lev, bringing with him a perspective shaped by both clinical discipline and international service.

Opening the Door at 450 Sutter

In September 1968, Dr. Kadosh established his own practice at 450 Sutter Street, a landmark whose upper floors have, by design, remained home to generations of physicians and dentists. From the building’s elegant bronze detailing to its distinctive Art Deco character, the setting has become almost inseparable from his own professional story.

Over the decades, his practice has witnessed the remarkable evolution of modern dentistry—from traditional restorative techniques to cosmetic procedures, implant dentistry, and digitally guided treatment planning. Throughout that transformation, he has remained committed to continuously expanding his clinical expertise while maintaining the same practice that has served generations of patients from the very same location.

A Champion of Professional Standards

Beyond patient care, Dr. Kadosh has dedicated much of his career to strengthening the profession itself.

From 1984 to 1996, he chaired the Peer Review Committee of the San Francisco Dental Society, overseeing the fair evaluation of professional complaints and helping uphold the ethical standards of dental practice. His service earned him the California Dental Association’s Outstanding Service Award in 1993.

His commitment to professional accountability continued from 1995 through 2012, when he served as an Expert Consultant to the California Board of Dental Examiners, providing clinical expertise on matters involving professional standards and patient care.

His professional accomplishments have also been recognized through selection among the Bay Area’s top dentists by Consumer Checkbook Magazine, a Consumer ValueStar Award for patient satisfaction based on an independent survey conducted by San Francisco State University, and top patient rankings on DoctorOogle.com.

Dr. Kadosh is an active member of numerous professional organizations, including the American Dental Association, the California Dental Association, the San Francisco Dental Society, the San Francisco Academy for Advanced Dental Education, the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, and the Academy of Osseointegration, reflecting his longstanding commitment to continuing education and advances in implant dentistry.

Sharing Experience with the Next Generation

Since July 2010, Dr. Kadosh has served as an Instructor at the Frontier Institute, where he teaches advanced cosmetic dentistry to fellow practitioners. The role complements his ongoing clinical practice in General, Cosmetic, and Implant Dentistry, allowing him to share decades of practical experience while helping dentists refine advanced clinical techniques.

His involvement in education reflects a career-long belief that professional excellence depends on continuous learning. The same commitment that guided his work in peer review and regulatory consulting now shapes his efforts to mentor colleagues and promote higher standards throughout the profession.

Implant dentistry has become an increasingly important part of that work. As a member of the Academy of Osseointegration since 2006, Dr. Kadosh has remained engaged with advances in evidence-based implant treatment, integrating evolving techniques into a practice focused on restoring both function and aesthetics for his patients.

His philosophy of care remains straightforward: “Ours is a health-centered dental practice, as opposed to an insurance-driven practice. Our recommendations for treatment are based on sound judgment, not on what dental plans may ‘allow.’ “

It is a philosophy that has guided his practice for decades and continues to define every clinical decision.

Building Trust One Patient at a Time

Dr. Kadosh’s approach to patient care reflects the same thoughtful discipline that has characterized his professional life. Every new patient begins with a comprehensive evaluation that includes a detailed review of medical and dental history, a complete clinical examination, and updated diagnostic records whenever necessary.

Only after that foundation has been established are treatment recommendations discussed. Options, expected outcomes, and financial considerations are reviewed during a dedicated consultation, allowing patients to make informed decisions before treatment begins. Ongoing care then follows through scheduled restorative treatment and preventive maintenance.

Even emergency visits follow this patient-centered philosophy. Immediate concerns are addressed first, while comprehensive evaluation becomes part of the follow-up process to ensure that short-term relief never comes at the expense of long-term oral health.

This measured approach reflects a career built on careful diagnosis rather than rushed decisions. Decades spent in clinical practice, professional oversight, continuing education, and implant dentistry have reinforced a simple belief: lasting results begin with understanding the patient before beginning treatment.

His practice describes its mission as one that is “strongly committed to educating, motivating, encouraging, and inspiring our patients to become actively involved in preventive dentistry.” When restorative or cosmetic treatment becomes necessary, the goal is to provide it with both clinical excellence and genuine comfort.

After more than five decades serving patients from one of San Francisco’s most iconic medical buildings, Dr. Albert Kadosh has built a legacy defined not only by longevity but by consistency, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to raising the standard of dental care. In a profession transformed by technology and innovation, his greatest achievement may be something far more enduring: earning the trust of generations of patients through expertise, compassion, and a steadfast dedication to doing what is right.
