U.S. Biotech company Amgen has announced that it plans to establish a new science & innovation center in Hyderabad, India. Amgen’s new R&D center in Hyderabad will expand its global research capabilities and strengthen Hyderabad’s position as a major life sciences destination.
Hyderabad’s research facility is expected to begin operations in 2027 and will become part of Amgen’s global R&D network of seven research laboratories. The company has not disclosed the investment cost for the Genome Valley facility.
Amgen’s new R&D center in Hyderabad builds on Amgen’s existing operations in the city. Amgen established a global capability center in Hyderabad in February 2025, with the existing operation employing around 3,000 people, according to the supplied reporting.
Objectives of Amgen’s New Hyderabad R&D Center
Amgen’s new R&D center in Hyderabad will bring scientists and technologists together across several areas of medical research, including:
- Discovery chemistry: identifying and studying chemical compounds that could become medicines.
- Drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics: studying how medicines move through and are processed by the body.
- Precision medicine: developing approaches that can better match treatments to individual patient characteristics.
Hyderabad team will work closely with Amgen’s research locations worldwide. Amgen expects this collaboration to improve the speed, precision and efficiency of medicine discovery and development.
Jay Bradner, Amgen’s executive vice president of Research and Development, Artificial Intelligence and Data, said, “The new center in Genome Valley expands the way we integrate experimental science with data and technology across our global research capabilities and complements our strong U.S.-based Research and Development footprint.”

Amgen’s New R&D Center in Hyderabad will not operate as an isolated facility. Instead, it will form part of Amgen’s seven-laboratory global R&D network and complement the company’s established U.S. research operations.
Amgen said the new site will combine advanced scientific capabilities with data and digital innovation to accelerate the discovery and development of medicines for patients worldwide.
